GUPES Partnership Forum

Global Universities Partnership on Environment and Sustainability (GUPES) and UNEP

 Background
- Launched in the summer of 2012, GUPES was the result of a consultative forum organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and its partners to increase successful involvement with universities.
- The goal of GUPES is to increase the mainstreaming of environment and sustainability practices and curricula into universities by supporting innovative approaches to education. This is done in accordance with the Global Action Programme on Education for Sustainable Development, and in partnership with UNESCO, IAU and other organizations.
- Currently over 520 universities are affiliated with GUPES, spanning Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America/Caribbean, North America & West Asia.

Goal
- As we move towards adoption of the Post 2015 Development Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, the GUPES Partnerships Forum provides a platform to review progress of the GUPES community, and identifying joint initiatives/partnerships in contributing towards these new strategic directions, as well as implementation of the Global Action Programme on Education for Sustainable Development;
- The GUPES Partnerships Forum will provide inputs to the 2015 World Environmental Education Congress, including WEEC side events on Sustainable Campuses - Universities Walking the Talk, and Developing a Massive Open Online Course on Education for Sustainable Development through South-North Partnerships.

Interested participants can register by emailing Pamela.Mubuta@unep.org

International Intergenerational Network of Centers meeting

Academic centers have long promoted the mainstreaming of sustainability in home institutions, in higher education, and in the larger culture of our time. One purpose of this network is to document and report how individual centers practice sustainability in their home institutions and communities. We wish to promote collaboration among centers and to expand our vision of strong sustainability to other centers and institutions. We ale seek to engage students and junior colleagues as much as possible. The network would promote intergenerational collaboration in research and activities. We see the network as a conduit for partnerships, rather than as a formalized institution.

This meeting is an opportunity to advance the network's research agenda in intergenerational learning. We will discuss the development of the next book in the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development book series at Wageningen Academic Publishers. The previous volume, and the network's first research project, was Intergenerational Learning and Transformative Leadership for Sustainable Futures, published in 2014. We will also discuss governance matters.

Interested parties should kindly RSVP to Peter Blaze Corcoran at pcorcora@fgcu.edu

 RCE – GAP ↔ GAP – RCE

For ten years the Regional Centres of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development (RCE’s) have been active in supporting the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. Now the decade is ended and we are now working on the Global Action Programme (GAP) on ESD. The intention with this side event is to discuss how the RCE networks can support the GAP, and how GAP can support the progress of the RCE networks. What are the roles of  the  RCEs in implementing GAP, what are the strategic actions to take.

We will use the Open Space method in order to stimulate collaboration and future actions.
